COMMUNIQUE
Re: Code of Practice for the Medical Profession on Standards of Professional Conduct and Medical Ethics
The Medical Council of Mauritius has noted that certain General Practitioners and Specialists are indulging in “advertising” their professional services and resorting to “self-publicity” via the lay media.
The concerned practitioners are informed that such acts and doings are contrary to the Code of Practice as established under the Medical Council Act.
Paragraphs 16, 18, 20, 25 26 and 27 of the Part II of Code of Practice related to self publicity/advertisement may be viewed on the website of the Medical Council of Mauritius at address http://www.medicalcouncilmu.org for guidance of practitioners and adoption in their medical practice.
Council further informs Medical Practitioners that any breach in the Code of Practice, may lead to disciplinary proceedings under the Medical Council Act.
Para 20 (1) and para 26 of the Part II of the Code of Practice are reproduced below:
20. (1) A registered medical practitioner shall not advertise his professional services.
26. In any interaction a registered medical practitioner shall have with the lay media, it is the responsibility of the registered medical practitioner to ensure the observation of paragraph 20 of this Code of Practice regarding publicity and advertisement.
