Regulations

  1. In order to raise the quality of health care provided in Mauritius, the Medical Council decided to standardize the quality of medical education by streamlining prospective medical students to medical institutions of good reputation that deliver quality medical education.
  2. The Medical Council reviewed the list of Medical Institutions and in the year 2016, the Medical Council (Medical Institutions) Regulations 2004 was revoked to provide for a new regulation on Medical Institutions recognized by the Medical Council if Mauritius. In this regulation 235 universities of 38 different countries have been given recognition by the Medical Council of Mauritius.
  3. The Medical Council (Medical Institutions) Regulations 2016 came into force on January 01, 2017. Students in medicine having already been enrolled in a medical institution prior to coming into force of the said Regulation were exempted from the said regulation.
  4. Prospective students are advice to enrolled for a course in medicine which is listed/recognized in the Medical Council Act.
