Re: Dr Nishan MOHEEPUTH
- The Medical Council of Mauritius conducted a preliminary investigation into a case of liposuction performed by the above name practitioner on late patient Mrs. Varsha Devi Biefun Doorga. Following the operation the said patient developed serious medical complications resulting in her demise.
The matter was referred to the Medical Disciplinary Tribunal for hearing on 3 charges levelled against the doctor. The main charges were factually proved before the Tribunal.
- Given that Dr Moheeputh had been suspended since 13 February 2025, the Medical Council, as its sitting held on 01 April 2026, lifted the suspension and a “severe reprimand” was inflicted upon the doctor under section 17(4)(a)(i) of the Medical Council Act.
- The Medical Council has considered the fact that the said Doctor has already served 13 months suspension and that further suspension was not warranted in view of all the facts and circumstances of this case. In any event, the Medical Council is not empowered to impose a suspension for a period exceeding 2 years under the Medical Council Act.
- The Medical Council wishes to inform the public that Dr Moheeputh has in fact been found guilty of gross medical negligence during a liposuction operation resulting in the demise of the patient.
